Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come watch a practice?
We welcome prospective members to come and observe a training day. Please use the contact form to set up a visit. If there is a specific phase of our training or club you would like to see, please specify that in your message. Since we only work on 1-2 phases each training day, you are welcome to observe twice if you want to see all 3 phases.
Please keep in mind that training days are for club members and the focus will be on the dog-handler teams. If you are bringing people with you, please let us know ahead of time. Schutzhund dogs are highly trained animals. You will see only 1-2 dogs out at a time, and you will not be permitted to interact with them. While we love to see the younger generations enjoying the beauty of our working dogs and the sport of Schutzhund, please note that they would have to remain quiet and still throughout training. Please check ahead of time if children can be accommodated.
What is the process for joining the club?
If you are in the process of getting your puppy, we encourage you to come out and observe a training day so you can meet the club members, see our facilities, and chat with our training director. If you already own your Schutzhund prospect, please use the contact form to set up an appointment to have your dog evaluated by our training director. Any fees charged for the evaluation are paid directly to the training director and are external to any club fees.
Applicant Members
Applicant members are expected to participate in club training sessions a minimum of 8 times in a 10-week period. Upon recommendation by the training director, the applicant will be provided with a copy of the bylaws, review the applicant member information, must sign the WESC release waiver, and agree to the training fees. Training fees for applicant members is $100 per week.
At the end of the 10-week trial period and upon submission of the membership application, the Board will vote to accept or not accept the new member. If membership is granted the member has 30 days to join USCA.
Membership Expectations
All active members are expected to maintain their active membership in USCA and participate in all club activities. To remain in good standing members are required to fully attend at minimum of 2 training sessions per month. They should also embody the goals and ideals of our organization by exemplifying dedication to the sport of Schutzhund.
